Character Profile: Dr. Thomas Morford Throckmorton (1852-1940)

Dr. Thomas Morford Throckmorton was a beloved doctor who practiced in Chariton, IA and the surrounding areas for many years. He was born April 5, 1852, in Waynesburg, PA to John Throckmorton and Nancy Elizabeth Lazear. 

He recalls his family's move to the Chariton area in 1856 in a speech he made to the Old Settlers Reunion in 1907, one of many recollections of his family's pioneering days in early Lucas County. 

His home, in which he also practiced his trade, still stands in Chariton, a surviving monument of his legacy and his family's medical traditions - he was one of many practitioners in his family, including his daughter, Dr. Jeannette Franc Throckmorton-Dean. 

Dr. Throckmorton married Mary Ann Bentley August 8, 1878, and they were blessed with a number of children, including:
